Accents intrigue even the young.

I go to physical therapy. I try to arrange it so the little kidlets get to stay home with Kenzi. That doesn't always happen.

They love to go to therapy. They get to see daddy. They get hot chocolate. They get to "play" on equipment they shouldn't be playing on. They get to see Pieter...the therapist that works on me. Pieter was the therapist who worked on Bella when she needed it a while ago as well. Bella loves Pieter.

She draws him pictures. She gives him Valentines. She gives him hugs and hugs and hugs. She jumps on him. She tells him stories and talks and talks and talks. He doesn't seem to mind. He has boys and has commented how he would have liked to have had a girl as well.

Actually, all my children have gone with me to therapy at one time or other. If not for therapy than to hear Pieter talk. He's from the Netherlands and speaks Dutch. He's been in the U.S. for many years so I'm sure his accent isn't as strong as it could be...but he still has one.

I didn't realize Bella noticed until today. We were in the car on the way to therapy and she said...and I love the wording here. She said, "Hey, if I was born of Pieter I would have an action too." (Been reading the Bible baby girl?) I giggled at the wording, ran it through the mom filter and figured out she was saying accent. Too funny.

I let her know even his kids don't have accents. It sort of depends on where you're raised what kind of accent you have. She was pleased to know that she does have an accent it's just American. And she thought it was funny that different parts of America have different accents.

Don't dash dreams...throw'em a bone dang it.

I was sitting at the computer today when the backdoor slammed and I heard screaming, "MOOOOOOM, you gotta come see this!!!" "We found a dinosaur bone in the backyard...it's all white with scratches...it's huge...you gotta come see this!" This was all said at a high pitched excited screech. Bella was the one using words. Josie was just running around screaming.

Of course being a curious (note: see previous post) soul, I went out. It was like walking through an excited pack of dogs waving around small pink and yellow shovels. They were running around my legs screaming how exciting it would be if we had real dinosaur bones in our yard.

Little side note: It's possible. We do live in Utah. EXCEPT, I know they built this lot up with a boatload of junk "dirt"...cement, rebar, rock, glass, and not much dirt. Probably no bones.

Do you want to guess what they had dug up? :-)

The sprinkling system. Poor kids. I could totally see how they thought they had a dinosaur bone. I really wanted to let them believe it too. I stood there for a few seconds watching them dig like maniacs trying to find the end of this bone. When it was obvious they were prepared to dig up the whole sprinkling system I told them what they had unearthed.

OH, the disappointment. Precious little archaeological excavators. Bella sat back and just looked at it. Josie noticed the lack of digging mania from Bella and sat back and looked at Bella. She started pushing the dirt back into the large hole they had created. I reminded her of how we put all that pipe into the holes last year. She remembered. She had a disappointed smile on her face and said, "oh yeah." Gol dang.

What did I learn?

1. Don't be a dream dasher.
2. Let the kids dig up the whole darn yard believing we have dinosaur bones.
3. To see the light go out of a child's eyes causes regret.
4. I hate regret.
5. I'm tired of being practical.

If ever I need a digger, I've got two.

Was that a practical thing to say? Dang it.

Curiosity gave me a headache.

We live in a "newer" neighborhood. Seems to be new houses popping up every month or two. Which is a good thing to have the neighborhood filling up. Yay!

I've got an insatiable curiosity to see what all those houses look like inside. I try really really hard to not go in. It depresses me a little...."WHAT???? They weren't offering that when we built." "THAT is standard now? " "I want that!!" Every now and then I think..."Oh, I'm so glad we didn't get that." Anyway....I try to stay out of the new houses.

One day we were driving past and I said, "Man, I'm so curious to go into that house!" Bella was in the very back of the car and she said, "What's curious mean?" I explained and then she said, "Oh I get that. You just have to smack yourself in the forehead and it goes away!"

I said, "Really?"

She said, "Yeah, you just smack it right out."

I actually laughed out loud and thought, "What the heck?" I lightly smack myself in the head. I looked at her in the rear view mirror and said, "It didn't work. I'm still curious." She said, "You didn't smack hard enough!"

Some thoughts here:

1. Kids are curious creatures, right? That's a lot of smacking.
2. If that was a rule, it would be kind of funny.
3. Maybe this is why Bella had neck problems.
4. I have a headache.

Flu shot status

I put them off. I go back and forth about them every year. Here's the breakdown so far:

#1. Steve! He wins. First one done. It was a work thing. They get the vaccine in and go around the clinic giving all employee's the shot. Whoot! Good job Steve. I think I would have found a way to avoid it. :-)

#2 Chelsea (over 18...tried as an adult) flat out refused. No way Jose! She got sick once from the flu shot and has refused AMA since then. Stubborn.

#3. Bella and Josie. 2nd and 3rd done. Bella's having some neck issues so she was at the pediatrician. They asked if the kids had shots yet...uh...no. We scheduled the next available shot clinic a couple weeks later. Bella had lots of time to think about it and had worked herself into a tizzy. She hate, hate, hates shots. As a matter of fact, she threw up the morning we were scheduled. Thank the Lord shot clinics are Saturdays...because Steve could go with us. NICE! So much easier to take kidlets in separately. In the car on the way to Dr's office she was threatening to throw up again. Not, "Hey mom, if you make me go I'll throw up!" It was more like, "MOOOOOM, I have to throw up! AHH!" Steve was driving so I jump in the back seat with the only available catching apparatus...a left over clean pull up from Josie's potty training days. Not like it's going to help too much with leg holes. But you do what you gotta do. Fortunately, she didn't throw up.

We got to the office. As a precaution, I let them know she had no fever, no lack of eating or drinking, no sickies...but that she had thrown up. I thought perhaps it might be stress related. (thumbs up there) They checked her out. She passed because the nurse said, "So, who's first?" Bella ran out to the waiting room...like lightening. So...that meant Josie was first. I got Josie. Steve got Bella. YES!!!!!!! I scored on that one. Josie sat on my lap and looked innocently at the nurse. Got the shot, had some insult, tears, and moved on. I took her to the waiting room and Steve took Bella back to the room.

They didn't get two feet out of the waiting room when the panicked voice started. Kind of a low..."nooooooooooooo". Steve was kind of dragging her a litte by that point. They got into the room and I'm thinking she saw the tray. High pitched panicked whiney voice and crying. "I doooooonnnnnn't waaaaaaant a shot." I'm not sure what actually happened because Josie and I were contentedly sitting in the waiting room playing with the train. I shouldn't have been happy, but I was. I wasn't the one getting my eardrums pierced while keeping her from committing kamakazi murder/suicide this time. Josie did stop once when she heard high pitched screeching and thrashing about. She looked toward the commotion and said, "Is Bella ok?" "Oh yeah baby...ah...she's not happy." (duh)

They came out lickety split. Bella took some time to compose herself and forgive all involved in the insult and promplty asked if we could go get her special "I'm going to be brave getting my shot" treat. Well...slap me silly...what are you gonna do? Don't want to make it worse by denying the "brave" treat. (Oreo McFlurry from McDonald's).

#4. Colleen. You can pay me to have one. I was trying to hold out for the research clinic that would pay you to get the shot. Unfortunately, they closed the study. I was going to wait patiently until it opened up again...next year maybe? Until we were at Steve's work getting Bella's physical therapy (for her neck). When Pieter (her PT) was done Bella asked him if he could give her mom her flu shot. Side swiped...dang it. Pieter looked quite surprised and said he wouldn't know where to put it. (I can think of some places...just saying). She said her daddy knew how to give shots. A couple years ago he brought home all our vaccine's and gave us all flu shots. Made an impression on Bella. I think she did scream and flung the needle across the room. We never did find it. Heebie jeebie dance. Bella was adament I get my shot-by golly. Steve had that "ba ha ha ha, busted" look in his eye and arranged my flu shot. As I put on my brave face and went to get my shot Bella shuddered a little and assured me she would be there when I got done. Sweet girl. Grumble, grumble. I had to get the shot and I didn't get paid. Because it was at Steve's work it was free. So, next best thing I suppose.

#5. Jaz (over 18, tried as adult) refused as well...until she thought she could get paid to do it. :-) Study closed. More refusal. Stubborn.

#6. Kenzi....pending. (Until I can get her to dad's work or he brings one home for her!)

Josie...chiropractor

I took Josie (3 1/2 years) to the chiropractor today. Background: Josie has chronic sinus infections. Been tested for allergies to all things living and not. Been on antibiotics forever and still gets sinus infections. I finally found a chiropractor I was comfortable adjusting my children (Dr. Andersen...btw!).

It works wonderfully for her. (He does "tick tocks" and "popcorn". Anywho...

I took her in today because post nasal drip gagging has returned. Before he adjusted her she put her hand out and stopped him and said, "You be gentle, dude".

LOL...it was really funny.

Oh how the personalities differ...

I was outside raking rocks the other day....seem to do that frequently...we HAD a rock farm. Glorious day=SOD!! SOD rocks!!!!
Bella and Josie were with me while I was doing some last minute raking of the rocks to get the ground ready for the sod coming later that morning. Belle says, "oh stop mom...I saw a rock shaped like a heart!" She proceeded to dig through the rocks until she found the magical heart shaped rock. "Mama, I found the heart shaped rock!!" Getting excited for her I told her how rare and special it was to find a heart shaped rock.
Not wanting to be outdone by her big sister...or maybe not wanting to feel left out of the rare and magical rock finding. Josie started digging through the rocks. Success! She ran to me with a rock in her hand. Excitedly exclaiming, "Mama, I found a poop rock!" I took a look. Yep, it really was a poop shaped rock. I laughed and let her know that she had a rare and magical rock too.
Bella's stage of life: dreams can come true. There is magic in the world.
Josie's stage of life: potty training.

Osmosis...cooking fairy....Rumplestisken

I just wanted to know if anyone else out there buys a cookbook hoping that the deliciousness will end up on your table. I'm hoping for osmosis...Rumplestilsken, or some little cooking fairy. :-)
I'll let you know if that happens. I'll be singing "Oh Happy Day"!

Horse Named Charlie

I'm just reminding myself of this. We were in the car the other day after walking for a little bit and Bella said to me, "Moma...I have a horse in my leg and his name's Charlie!" I just laughed. SOOOO funny.
She has since had The Horse Named Charlie in her arm, other leg, and head. :-)

Paper airplanes

Bella wanted a paper airplane a week or so ago. I stink at paper airplanes. My sister and I tried to make them when we were kids...they never worked...at all. We couldn't figure out what all the hub bub was about them. So totally not fun.

Since I knew I couldn't make one I found a "how to" book at the library. It took me 2 weeks of perusing the book to finally decide to get down to business and make one. It took me an hour and a half, 7-8 attempts, a glimmer of why these are fun, and several almost swear words...and I still had not made one (from the beginner section) that actually worked well. During that hour and a half Steve and Kenzi had to duck and cover several times. (I had to test each one repeatedly. I was running all over the place. They were fond of going down the stairs, into my plant, the sink, dive bombing straight down, going straight up and right back at me...or whoever was behind me [Steve]. Behind the computer desk where I smacked my head on the wall in my haste to recover said fragile flower.) They seemed especially fond of seeking Steve out. I was so totally not aiming at him either. I even stood right next to him and threw so they wouldn't come back and whack him in the face. But they still did. :-/ I even made only the blunt-ended ones so it wouldn't hurt so much when they did their Steve-seeking. AND I figured if the little kidlets were throwing them and the planes were directionally challenged that perhaps there would be less tears with the blunt ends. (I'm a thinker.)

After one of my frustrated exclamations Steve said, "Give me a piece of paper." Turns out he made the dang things when he was a kid. It took him like 30 seconds to remember how to do it and he made 3. Chelsea and Jasmine...I think my "Chucky face" might have made an appearance there. *Colleen smacks head repeatedly against wall...then starts smacking Steve's head against wall as well. :-)

They were a lot of fun though...later after frustration ebbed. We'll see how Bella does with them tomorrow.

The things kids learn these days...

Texting!!!! Why, oh why can't we just call? Shame on me for saying that...I feel so antiquated. :-) Tangent: It was kind of nice in the "old days" when you didn't hear from someone you knew they couldn't afford the long distance charge or they just got busy and didn't have time to call (because phones used to be tethered to the wall ya know?). So many reasons not to get a call.

No writing letters...make a call. No calls...you can text. No texts...um...ESP?...you don't like me? Oh, I know...CAN'T text I have carpal tunnel! Yeah, that's it. :-) Heavy sigh of remembrance of the "old days".

Ok...un-tangent. The things kids learn. Specifically, Bella and Josie and text alert sounds! My little girlie's have learned to hum Beethoven's Fifth, TransSiberian Orchestra, and several other classical-type artists. We even went online to learn about some of these composers. We were in the car one day. I was flipping through stations and Bella said, "Hey mom, that was Mozart!" Sniffle! I am so proud!

Josie has learned that "There's no crying is baseball!" (A League of Their Own) And that someone named "goose" always wants to "talk to me". (From Top Gun..."Talk to me Goose!")

They both have been known to say "It's so fluffy!!!! Does this count as annoying?"...and they start smacking their cheeks making "annoying" noises. (Despicable Me).

They can both go "beer da near near near near near near..da near near near near near" (song from Robin Hood animated movie...where Robin Hood is a fox. Little John's a bear. Prince John is an annoying Lion who sucks his thumb)

They can even sing the Tigger theme song!

No problem! They're learning and memorizing...this is good. As soon as my phone goes off I hear them mimicking what they hear...what a fun learning tool.

I got a sound the other day. It made me laugh so hard I almost cried. I changed my text sound immediately. It's a little Irish leprechaun and he says...in his little Irish accent, "Holy crap, it's a text." I guess you gotta hear it because it SOUNDS way funnier than it types. Except when a 2 year old and 5 year old start saying it. GAH!!!!!!

Rocking out to Hercules.

Bella was in the playroom the other day playing one of her favorite cd games. It's from the kids movie Hercules. She just pops that disc in and off she goes. Josie likes to watch.

I was in the living room working on the computer. I don't know if you know these kid games...they go through bits of the movie and have all kinds of games to play throughout. Plus you get all the songs from the movie playing throughout as well. I soon became aware that she was singing to one of the Hercules songs. She was getting louder and louder...really belting it out. :-) It was so cute. Her little voice was squeaking as she hit those high notes.

It dawned on me to video her. By the time I got in there she had finished her song and was moving onto another game. Darn it. Next time I'm ready. I have the video camera within easy reach to grab and run down the hall and capture her on tape. She will love it when I pull this out to show her first date...or at Young Womenhood Recognition night...or at her wedding...or mission farewell. he he he

Bella's favorite letter

I have started "home" preschool with Bella. This last week was "L" week. We were at the dinner table the other night...just me, Bella, Josie, and Jaz. Bella and I were telling Jasmine what we had done that day for "preschool". (Bella is very cute in preschool...she says "I'll help you mom. I know you've never been a teacher before!)

Anyway...Jaz asked her what her favorite letter was. Belle has been in preschool and she had done up to letter K before Christmas. We were just picking up where they left off. Bella stopped talking and just sat there thinking a minute. It was cute. I thought...wow, she's really thinking about what letter she likes the best. I thought maybe she would say "I" or "B" for Isabella or Bella. After a while she said, "I know my favorite letter...it's M O M". WHAT A SWEET GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!! And smart...we haven't even done those letter yet. Just gave her hugs and kisses all over...little sweet sugar baby.

Bella was there when I told Steve about it. She was very proud of herself. She thought for a minute and said, "I have another favorite letter....D A D." She knows how to get a big hug.

Contrary Mary...or Josie

Josie has been a tad bit grumpy these last couple weeks...screaming, hitting, runny nose, constipated, possible teething (she's not agreeable to people looking in her mouth) and occasional biting (especially if you have your fingers in her mouth trying to see if she has new teeth coming in). OH...and she doesn't take naps much anymore either. She stands in her crib and anything she can reach is desecrated. Pictures, books, hard plastic container, stuffed animals, bedding.

She woke up early this morning...gave her ibuprofin first thing. :-) She ate breakfast, threw breakfast on floor, watched Curious George, helped me fold laundry by throwing it all on the floor. She dumped all the crayons out of the big tub of crayons we have. She hit Bella a couple times. Dumped all the toy bins she could find...repeatedly. Threw all the magnets off the magnet board. Poked me in the eye. Wouldn't stay in the playground area. Wanted to swing on the big swings but wouldn't hold on. Wouldn't take a nap...destroyed a picture of Jesus with the little children I had on the bookcase. Took all the shoes and spread them through the house. Hit me a couple of times. Drew on the wall. Took my basket of pens at the back of my desk...she climbed up the front of the desk to get them...and threw them on the floor. AND used the pens she could find to draw on any surface she could find...floor, her legs...a little bit of paper. Scratched my cupboards. Repeatedly started the water dispenser from the fridge...all over herself and floor. Threw the dvd's off the shelf. "Rearranged" the books on the living room and family room bookshelves. Played the piano. She loved dinner and said, "yummy". She rearranged everything on my computer to be sideways. She screamed during prayer and head butted me. She liked her bath.

Heavy sigh. My eye still hurts.

How many times have I told you?

It has to be said: I am a fairly paranoid parent. Somewhat overprotective.

Today was a busy day. I didn't get a shower until 5 p.m. I put Bella and Josie in front of the tv watching Word World to give myself time for a quick shower. I was not in there more than 3 minutes when Belle came running in saying "Someone is at the door."

Josie has discovered she can open doors...so I had locked and dead bolted the door. The handle lock seems to stop her but I figured I couldn't be too cautious. I would be safe for 5 minutes in the shower.

You know how your heart drops a little and you think things like..."well crap, I left the window open so the person at the door knows we are home because the tv is on." I told Bella that I was in the shower and couldn't come out to answer the door and that she was NOT to open it.

I quickly rinsed the shampoo out of my hair and got out of Dodge. I figured Bella would be standing at the window by the door motioning that she couldn't answer it...so the person would be sort of standing there waiting to see if anyone was home with 2 little kids. As I was getting dressed, in record time, Bella runs in and hands me a flyer. "He was an internet guy, mom." HOLY COW she opened the door. I was stunned. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD HER NOT TO ANSWER THE DOOR WITHOUT AN ADULT AROUND? And how the heck did she get the dead bolt open?

I tried to be calm and told her I had asked her NOT to answer the door. My sweet, innocent, little girl said, "He was a good guy mom...it's ok." I am trying to imagine the conversation that had gone on between the two of them. There are so many what if's to this situation I cringe.

Once the door is open Josie usually runs as fast as she can away from the house. I'm so glad she didn't get out. Or that he caught her and put her back in. I'm glad he was one of the "good guys" and that he wasn't standing there when Bella handed me the flyer.

Needless to say Bella got a lecture and we are getting a chain lock for the door...up high. Or those plastic dealie's to put on the door handle. Or a guard to stand watch...or something.

You won't believe this...I'm not making it up.

We went to Idaho to visit some friends a week or so ago. It was beautiful and who knew there was so much to do in Idaho? Coeur D'alene...neat place. Lots of biking, water sports, trails. Really cool.

We were on our way to the Hiawatha trail...cool, awesome, fun!! ..driving through town...and what do my eyes behold? A sign!!! One of those little A-frame signs outside a hardware store. I did a double take. It said...and I'm not lying..."Anti Monkey Butt powder". I asked Steve if he saw it and he said no. I thought my eyes might have deceived me. I mean...sheesh!

Steve and I laughed a bit and had quite a conversation. We decided since it was a biking, athletic type town that possibly his brother Doug (who is a very biking, athletic...in a "I'm going to ride off a cliff or ride a zillion miles race-type fella) would have an inkling if this was something in the biking world. So...I texted him. A little while later we received a text back along the lines that he never heard of it and it sounded like some sort of alternate universe thing...run away fast.

So...of course we drove back. I think Steve wanted to make sure I hadn't been dipping into...well whatever you dip into to make you say, "hey, did you see that sign that said it had Anti-Monkey Butt Powder on sale?" It was real. I was redeemed and took pictures!! I mean the odds of seeing that again are SLIM. Steve even went in and bought a bottle. :-) There were two kinds...regular and lady's. He bought the lady's...I am not actually sure if there was a reason behind that. Hmm.

Straight from the bottle...these are not my words: "Say Good-bye to Chafed Thighs. Lady Anti Monkey Butt Powder is specially formulated with patented satiny smooth powder to minimize the frictional discomfort that women often experience when using exercise equipment, running, driving, cycling or just walking. Its unique ingredients work quickly to absorb sweat and provide cooling effective relief of irritation on the inner thighs and other areas of the skin prone to rubbing." Then on to say: Indoors or outdoors, work or play, or on occasions when you're on your butt all day, don't let your buns get red. Instead use Lady Anti Monkey Butt Powder for all day protection."

I'm almost speechless. Steve asked the cashier about it and was told it was one of his best sellers...duh! I mean the white elephant quality of this item is priceless. But no...the cashier said a lot of people use it for motorcycle rides, running, and biking. They swear by it!!

So...there is an alternate universe. It's called Sherman's Hardware store in Coeur D'alene Idaho.

Side note: It smells like baby powder and I did not notice it seemed and different than regular powder. But than...I can't say I've ever thought..."sheesh I wish I had something for this feeling of monkey butt that I have. You'd think someone would make something for that." I did, however, get a vision from years ago. We were at Six Flags in St. Louis. We had just been on the ride that splashes down and you get soaked. Steve and I were noticing as we walked farther and farther away from the ride that our children (Chels, Jaz, and Kenzi) were walking mighty funny. You know how kids look when they are wet or have had an accident...like they are trying to keep their thighs from rubbing and chafing? Not that they are thinking those words. BUT...I'm thinking amusement/water parks could make a killing selling Anti-Monkey Butt powder.

The pictures will be posted as soon as Kenzi finds the cord to transfer her pics to the computer! :-)

Prayer...

Bella said prayers tonight. She was asking for blessings..."bless we have a good sleep, bless we have a safe day." Little kiddo stuff.

Then she said, "Bless we get husbands. Amen."

We sat there for a couple seconds and then busted out laughing. I swear she will be our first one married. Look out boys...Bella is on her way! Word of caution...She wants 200 kids. :-)

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

The other day my brother-in-law posted about their new puppy. She is cute as can be, but is not potty trained.

Side note: As soon as I showed Bella the pictures she squealed and grabbed her toy cell phone and said, "I need to text Doug that she is sooooooooo adorable and that I will babysit her." :-)

Back to the story. My brother-in-law had mentioned that his cute little bundle had left a rather large gift on the floor and he knew this because he had stepped in it. He talked about how such a darn cute puppy could get away with this...but children on the other hand??? Well, Doug, your blog inspired me to share our experience.

Josie is attempting potty training. She's actually quite good at telling me right after she goes in her diaper. She is also good at sitting on the potty and holding it until 10 seconds after I put her diaper back on.

The other day we did the potty drill...sit on potty, read a book, sing a song, whatever it takes to get her to stay there long enough to actually do something. She hasn't yet. Done anything on the potty. I even tried your trick Eliz...of pouring a little warm water on her to encourage the feeling of pee pee. Alas, she only learned to take any cup of water she can find and pouring it down her front. Or dumping it in the potty, cup and all. Heavy sigh. I digress.

The other day we did the potty drill. She had not done anything, I feared her legs were falling asleep so I took her off and went to get a diaper. I was on my way back to the bathroom when I heard her in the hallway yelling, "POTTY!" I turned the corner and low and behold she was standing in the hallway with (forgive me...I can't find a better way to say this) with a poo clenched between her cheeks. She looked like a rabbit with a brown tail. Honest to goodness.

I bolted down the hall whipping the diaper open to try to catch her not so small gift before it fell. Imagine slow motion softball tournament. I actually put the diaper under her bottom and picked her up at the same time as running down the hall. So her poo could drop into the toilet instead of the floor.

I got her there!!! I set her on the potty and tried to maneuver the diaper so the "item" would plop in there. I heard nothing. (WHAT?????) As my mind tried to assimilate this I heard Bella scream in the hallway, "She pooped on the floor!!" Gasp. I walked defeatedly (think of losing team of softball players) out the bathroom door and there it was in all it's glory. A poo on the carpet. Sheesh.

To quote Doug "but she's so dang cute!" :-)

Delightful

I don't know about your household...but getting my kids to help me do housework is a struggle to say the least. Except children under the age of 5, they always want to "help"! :-)

It's almost a daily thing around dinner time for me to yell down the stairs or ask someone who's close by to set the table for me. As much as my kids don't believe it, I do set the table myself occasionally.

Yesterday was one of those days. I WAS going to set the table myself. I was making dinner and had already tossed aside the idea of yelling down the stairs. Isabella was in the living room, I was in the kitchen, and unsuspecting Chelsea was on her way up the stairs...hurrying to the restroom.

As Chelsea topped the stairs, Isabella jumped up and said, "Mom would be delighted if you set the table!!!!!" I did a double take, replayed what Bella said, and waited to see how this played out. Chelsea continued her rush to the bathroom with a confused look on her face. Bella stood by the stairs...possibly waiting to apprehend Chelsea on her way back down? I don't know but it makes a good story.

A couple minutes later Chelsea came out of the bathroom and said, "Did you want me to set the table?" I had to just chuckled to myself and said, "I'd be delighted!"

Our older children...

Do we have older children living here? Sometimes I forget.

I realized that I frequently post about the littlest kidlets...but teenager + don't get much type time. It's because they are never here! I've looked. If I'm not out picking up or dropping off it's because one has taken the car and vamoosed.

IF they are home they stay downstairs and read...that would be the life. Lay around in bed and read and watch movies all day. Ok...I am exaggerating. They are quite busy with work, school stuff, color guard, plays, parades, and friends. Chelsea spends an enormous amount of time on the computer researching. She is our budding writer. She works a lot at Jamba Juice. Jasmine has read upwards of 30 books this summer. When she's not volunteering as a princess (at a non-profit organization) or volunteering at the opera institute class thingy. Kenzi is our color guard, band, parade girl. Not old enough to drive (close) but she does hitch rides with Chelsea and Jasmine to friends houses.

When they are home they do watch the little one's for me. That's so nice. It's great not to have to take kids to dr's appointments and such. It has worked out this summer that one of them is usually here to do that for me. What am I going to do when school starts? Chelsea and Jasmine pretty much gone for the school year and Kenzi busy, busy, busy with band. (Which...who knew band was sooooo much work?) I don't know if we (me, Isabella, and Josie) are ready for college/school to start.

I will have to pay closer attention while the "older" girls are home so I can write down things that happen with them.

No offense...naked!!

Ok. I discovered a week or so ago that some people get offended at the word "naked". If I was streaking through a wedding reception or through the neighborhood I could completely understand the objection to the word...(and actions mentioned above).

Josie (2 years) was going to "pose" for a picture. Eliz's (my friend/sister-in-law) friend (a photographer) was looking for a chunky...chuba chuba baby to take a picture of for a contest. Naked...except in a cloth diaper. Josie has some rolls to spare so Eliz thought of her. It was a last minute thing and we ended up not being able to get it arranged. Bummer...I would have loved to see that picture. Anyway...I had mentioned this "naked" picture in public. (I did clarify that it wasn't really naked...there would be a diaper in place).

But the mention of the word "naked" caused some cringes. It was not a huge objection...just a few suggestions of different words: unclothed, no clothes, bare skinned. I felt a teeny bit uncouth. That got me thinking about that ever so bare-skinned word.

I must give credit to everyone who cringes. When I think of the word with adults in mind I cringe a little too. Kind of strange how that one word can have different meanings for different age groups.

I like the word. I think it has a great flow to it. Naked, naked, naked!!! However, when I say the word it conjures up thoughts of babies...Anne Geddes...smooth skin, tiny toes, tiny fingers, tiny bottoms. Words like "unclothed" just don't bring those baby images to my mind.

For me it's a fun word...like saying "bubbelisious" or "serendipity". Those words are fun to say. I think of children playing in the sprinkler or happily running through fields of tall grass. How about "itchy Bob"? Has anyone else seen the kid show Martha Speaks? There was an episode about "What's Wrong With Bob?" Bob is a dog...he wasn't itchy...but they sure had fun saying it.

I suppose I don't walk around saying "naked" just for fun. (Bella and I have been known to randomly say "itchy Bob"). But if I have to describe a baby picture without clothes...I think I'm still gonna say "naked baby picture". :-)
